Westville parents arrested after police find children, under the age of 5, home alone

WESTVILLE — Two Westville residents have been arrested after police say they left several children, one only five months old, home alone.

On Friday Feb. 21, at approximately 10:02 a.m., Westville Police Officers were dispatched to the 600 block of West Main St. for a welfare check of juveniles possibly left home alone unattended.

Upon arrival, officers located several juveniles, all under the age of five with the youngest just five months old, who had been left home alone. Officers contacted the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services who responded and took custody of the children.

Officers then located and arrested the mother, identified as Melissa Caudill, and father of several of the juveniles, identified as William Taylor. Caudill and Taylor were transported to the Danville Public Safety building where they were booked for Child Endangerment.

The public is reminded that all suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Westville Police Department would like to thank members of the community who saw something and said something to protect these children.
