Select Car Leasing appoints Shane Pither to lead EV division

Select Car Leasing has revitalised its electric vehicle (EV) leasing division with the appointment of Shane Pither as head of Select Electric.

In his new role, Pither will focus on guiding customers through the entire EV journey, offering advice on charging infrastructure, energy solutions, and helping them select the most suitable electric cars and vans. He will also work on building key relationships with automotive and energy industry partners to enhance Select’s overall EV offering.

Pither, who previously served as head of automotive innovation at Select, said: “Here at Select Electric, we are dedicated to inspiring customers to experience the many benefits of electrified vehicles – from lower fuel costs and improved performance to their long-term environmental impact.

“This is a multi-faceted role, ensuring our teams are equipped with the knowledge and tools to confidently guide customers in their EV transition, while also expanding our EV solutions, such as battery storage and charging infrastructure.”

Pither also highlighted the growing affordability of EVs and technological advances in 2024, including solid-state battery innovation, which he described as “just around the corner.”

A recent Select Car Leasing survey found that 40% of website visitors were “seriously considering” an EV as their next vehicle, with 44% planning to make the switch within the next four years. However, the survey also revealed knowledge gaps, with 13% of respondents admitting they “didn’t know enough” about EVs to form an opinion.

Pither added: “That’s a huge number of people looking to get behind the wheel of an EV. Uptake among our customers is already well above the current BEV market share of 17.8%, according to the latest SMMT (Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders) data.

“Select Electric is here to bridge knowledge gaps and provide reassuring guidance to those considering an EV, while also challenging some of the misleading information about electric vehicles circulating online.”

Mark Tongue, joint CEO and founder of Select Car Leasing, described the new role as crucial for advancing the broker’s EV strategy. “This position is central to supporting our EV agenda across commercial and sales departments, as well as strengthening relationships with partners, including funders.

“Shane’s considerable expertise and passion for EVs will play a key role in driving our Select Electric goals and helping customers make informed decisions about the future of motoring.”
