A Scrubs reboot is reportedly in early development with creator Bill Lawrence on board to work on the revival.

Variety reported on Thursday, December 5 that Lawrence, 55, is developing the reboot of the beloved 2000s medical sitcom, with his current studio, Warner Bros. Television allowing him room to work with 20th Television in order to make the reboot possible.

According to Variety, no other deals or casting decisions have been made at this time.

The series ran for nine seasons from 2001 and 2010. It starred Donald Faison, Sarah Chalke, Zach Braff and more, and chronicled the lives of employees at the fictional Sacred Heart Hospital.

Donald Faison has a hopeful message for fans of Scrubs. “We’re trying to work out a Scrubs situation,” Faison, 49, exclusively tells Us Weekly while promoting NBC’s Extended Family. “I think everybody will be happy in the near future if you’re a Scrubs fan.” Faison, who played Dr. Chris Turk in the series, explains that […]

Lawrence and many of the show’s cast members have expressed their wishes to return for a reboot in interviews over the years.

Braff, who played John ‘JD’ Dorian told Entertainment Tonight in August that he was on board to reprise his role but it was mostly behind-the-scenes business contracts surrounding Lawrence that had been preventing the reboot coming to fruition.

Scrubs is a Disney show. Bill [Lawrence] has a Warner Bros. deal. Once those two companies figure that out, I think the people will get what they want. I think it’s gonna happen.” Braff, 49, told the outlet.

Braff added it would be a no brainer in terms of coming back should the opportunity arise.

“It would be so much fun [with] all my favorite people,” Braff said. “We all still hang out. A lot of people who were on long shows say that, but it’s true. I was just on vacation with Sarah Chalke … I’m going to the beach with Bill next weekend. We’re all friends.”

Faison, who portrayed Braff’s best friend Dr. Chris Turk on the series, echoed the sentiment in February while speaking to Us Weekly.

“We’re trying to work out a Scrubs situation,” Faison, 50, said. “I think everybody will be happy in the near future if you’re a Scrubs fan.”

Faison also acknowledged the logistical hoops of making it happen but said at the time attempts were being made to bring it back.

“We’re trying,” he said. “We’re really trying.”

In June 2022, the cast and crew reunited at an ATX Festival panel, and Faison noted that they “would love to work together again.”

“It’s just that it’s really hard,” Faison explained. “It can’t be a full season of a show — it would have to be a movie or something like that, where you could only give a couple of months to it. Everyone is doing things.”

Lawrence, meanwhile, said during the festival that he’d be interested in a revival, adding, “We’re gonna do it because we’re lucky enough that people care. Top to bottom, we enjoy spending time with each other. If you ever have an excuse to work with people that you’d want to spend time with anyways, run to it … It’s worth it to me to see Neil [Flynn] back in that jumpsuit again.”
