And Just Like That is returning to its Sex and the City roots in season 3 with the addition of some new men.
While speaking at the Red Sea Film Festival in Saudi Arabia on Wednesday, December 11, star Sarah Jessica Parker teased new episodes that will have “growth with new faces.”
“[My character] Carrie has a wonderful story line. The story takes some big swings and we fold some big ideas into those big swings,” she teased, according to Variety. “Some of the male characters are back, and there are some new men.”
Parker, 59, reflected on the “crazy long hours” that come with filming a season across seven months.
“There are so many interesting stories with additional characters that rightfully find a real home,” she explained, adding that the entire process was “really big, really robust and exciting.”
Sex and the City, which premiered in 1998, focused on Carrie Bradshaw (Parker) and her dating life in New York alongside her friends Charlotte York (Kristin Davis), Miranda Hobbes (Cynthia Nixon) and Samantha Jones (Kim Cattrall). After six seasons on HBO and two movies, the hit series was revived as And Just Like That for Max in December 2021.
The revival has introduced several love interests for Carrie after the season 1 premiere killed off her husband Mr. Big (Chris Noth). That same month, Noth, 70, was accused of sexual assault by multiple women. Noth, who has been married to Tara Wilson since 2012, denied the allegations at the time. In response to the scandal, Max scrapped the show’s scenes featuring Noth.
Carrie’s former fiancé Aidan, played by John Corbett, also makes an appearance in the revival series. After joining season 2 of And Just Like That, Aidan quickly won Carrie — and viewers — over again with his charm. But by the end of the season, Carrie and Aidan once again went their separate ways.
Not everyone was thrilled by the narrative decision, especially after showrunner Michael Patrick King teased a different outcome, telling The New York Times in June 2023, “I didn’t bring Aidan back to fail.”
One month later, King defended the decision to have Aidan and Carrie play the long game.
“She’s not going to hurt him because she knows she can’t. And we also don’t want the fans to think we did that again,” he explained on AJLT’s official companion podcast. “The only way we knew that he would ever pull away from her is if the bigger love — and every parent would assume that this is a bigger love — [was] the responsibility and love for your children.”
Corbett, 63, has been seen filming scenes with Parker for season 3.
And Just Like That is currently streaming on Max. Season 3 is set to premiere in 2025.
