In the past few weeks, Adam Brody has gone from “that cute guy who was in The OC” to international sex symbol, all thanks to his role as hot rabbi Noah in Nobody Wants This.
But while the Netflix romcom series pulled in a staggering 26 million viewers (and counting) in its first ten days on the streaming platform, Brody’s ex and former co-star, Rachel Bilson, has admitted she isn’t one of them.
Brody, 44, stars alongside Kristen Bell, also a friend of Bilson’s, on the show, which has happily been renewed for a second season. “I hear everyone loves it,” Bilson, 43, told People. “And I couldn’t be more excited, ‘cause literally Kristen and Adam both I love, and are like my people. So I’m really excited about it and excited for them.”
The actress, who dated Brody for around three years when the pair played the unlikely but much-loved couple Seth and Summer in The OC, says she’s not surprised that millions of women have now clocked what she figured out 20 years ago — Brody is hot! “I feel like it’s always been there,” she said of his new grown-up heartthrob status. “But if it is, it’s well deserved. I mean, he is awesome. He’s the best.”
Following their split in 2006, Brody went on to marry Leighton Meester, from equally iconic teen show Gossip Girl, and the couple share two children. Bilson, meanwhile, dated actor Hayden Christensen for ten years and the pair share a daughter, Briar, 9. After their split in 2017, she dated actor and comedian Bill Hader, but it was to be short-lived. Despite all the break-ups, though, she says she’s still a big fan of all things romance — and would love to star in her own rom-com (just probably not with an ex!).
“I’m a huge rom-com person myself,” she says. “So yeah, I would jump at a chance, just because I am such a movie nerd like that with anything romantic.”
The cast of Nobody Wants This have been stunned by its huge success too, according to its creator Erin Foster who’s frantically writing the next season as we speak. “Kristen came into the room with Justine [Lupe, who plays Morgan] to hear some storylines that we were working on,” she told The Hollywood Reporter. “And she says she hasn’t gotten a reaction to anything like this, literally, since Frozen.”
Since Bilson is pretty much the last millennial woman in the world who hasn’t watched Nobody Wants This yet, she might want to catch up stat — because, as awkward as it might feel to watch your ex being adorable on camera, this show could run and run. Keep Us updated, Rachel, we’d love to know what you think!
