Looking to work in education: Massachusetts school district to hold job fair

The annual North Central MA Educator Job Fair is back bigger and better than ever.

Now in its third year, the multi-district event at Oakmont Regional High School in Ashburnham will see officials from over 20 school districts from across the state meeting with educators to connect, network, and discuss career opportunities.

Organizer Stacey Christiano, director of human resources at Oakmont Regional High School, said she was pleased to see the job fair, which began with only six districts, expand so quickly in such a short amount of time.

“We’re still calling it ‘North Central’ because that was our original target, but now we have districts out toward Boston and Burlington taking part – I’m a little shocked at how many districts we have,” she said. “There are some really good districts coming here.”

Alyssa Magoffin, the human resources generalist at the Ralph C. Mahar Regional School District, will be among those in attendance at the Third Annual North Central MA Educator Job Fair at Oakmont Regional High School in Ashburnham on Thursday, May 8.

The event, which is open to all Pre-K through Grade 12 educators, will take place from 4 to 7 p.m. at 9 Oakmont Drive on Thursday, May 8.

The event is described as a “one-stop shop” and will highlight career opportunities for teachers, paraeducators, instructional assistants, custodians, food services, transportation personnel and summer staff, according to Christiano.

“I think it’s just a good opportunity for people to get together and see which districts need which jobs, so we’re kind of swapping people and keeping good people in our circle,” she said.

Christiano said the event had received overwhelmingly positive feedback from past attendees.

“I think what’s happening is that we’re getting great word-of-mouth, and people are coming out to see what we’re all about – it’s been well-attended,” she said.

More than 20 school districts to attend job fair

Districts and schools scheduled to participate in this year’s job fair include Ashburnham-Westminster Regional, Narragansett Regional, Fitchburg Public, Quabbin Regional, Hudson Public, Worcester Public, Marlborough Public, Nashoba Regional, Winchendon Public, Harvard Public, Athol-Royalston, Mahar Regional, Waltham Public, Leominster Public, Westford Public, Hopkinton Public, Wachusett Regional, Nantucket Public, Milford Public, Greater Lowell Technical School, Burlington Public, Westwood Public, Minuteman High School, and the DESE Licensure Office.

It was possible that the annual job fair could expand in the future, Christiano said.

“Twenty-three districts is a good number – it keeps it small enough that people coming in can have that personal connection with the district employer behind the table, but it’s big enough that it draws a big crowd. But I do see it growing in the future.”
