Galliford Try and Seddon scoop places on CHIC mega-framework

Major contractors including Galliford Try, Equans and Seddon have scooped multiple spots on a new housing framework worth more than £3bn.

The eight-year development framework covers new-build, retrofit and refurbishment projects across the UK. The Communities and Housing Investment Consortium (CHIC), which runs the framework, said it would “support and promote modern methods of construction (MMC)” and include a “diverse range [of structures], from traditional one/two/three-storey buildings to medium- and high-rise”.

CHIC’s framework will focus on housing, as most of its members are housing associations and local authority landlords. But the framework could also include work in the education, health and commercial sectors.

Galliford Try and Seddon bagged three spots on the framework, one on lot three (regeneration contractors), and two on different workstreams across the second lot (development contracting services). Equans, Higgins, BOOM, Lovell and Mulalley, meanwhile, each scooped two places on the framework.

Lot one, which is worth £20m, covers consultancy services for newbuild and regeneration projects, and is split into four workstreams for project manager, architectural services, engineering services and principal design jobs. Lot two, which accounts for £2.4bn, covers development contracting, with four workstreams.

Galliford Try and Seddon were both named on workstreams one and four on the second lot, which cover new-build main contractual work and MMC turnkey contractors.

Equans, Mulalley and Lovell Partnerships were also included on the first workstream on lot two.

The second workstream, meanwhile, covers fully modular MMC manufacturers, while the third workstream is for frame and panel MMC manufacturers.

Galliford Try and Seddon also scooped spots on the third lot, valued at £640m, which covers regeneration work. That could include new-build, MMC new-build, refurbishment and retrofit work. Higgins, Mulalley and Equans are also in the lot.

CHIC said the length of the framework would allow firms to “share learning from scheme to scheme [and] secure continuous improvement”.
