Father jumps into American River to save son, doesn’t return to surface, sheriff’s office says


(FOX40.COM) — The Placer County Sheriff’s Office said on Sunday that its dive team is searching for an ” unaccounted for ” man along the American River.

According to the sheriff’s office, just before noon, deputies received reports of a man who had gone under and not resurfaced in the area of No Hands Bridge on the American River.

“According to family members, the man jumped in after his son, who was struggling in the water,” the sheriff’s office said. “Another man, not with the family, also jumped in to help and was able to bring the child back to shore.”

The child was taken to the hospital and is expected to be okay. The father has still not been found, according to the Placer County Sheriff’s Office.

“Our dive team responded and worked to locate the man. At this point, he has not been found,” the agency said on X.
