DHL: Cargo plane that crashed in Vilnius was Swift Air aircraft

The cargo plane that crashed near the Lithuanian capital, Vilnius, was an aircraft from the Spanish airline Swift Air, said the German postal delivery company DHL for whom it was operating.

DHL said on Monday that Swift Air operates under contract.

According to the information provided, the plane was en route from the eastern German city of Leipzig to Vilnius. About 1 kilometre before the airport, it reportedly had to initiate an emergency landing.

The “status” of the crew is still being clarified, DHL said, adding that its “thoughts are with them and their families.”
