Clouds of Smoke from Rapidly Spreading Hughes Fire Loom Over Santa Clarita

Smoke loomed over Santa Clarita on Wednesday, January 22, as the Hughes Fire burned thousands of acres of land in California.

This video taken by Anthony Cabassa shows the view from his home as smoke from the fast-growing inferno wafts skyward.

According to Cal Fire, the blaze started as a vegetation fire on Lake Hughes Road near Castic Lake and measured about 50 acres.

Within two hours it had spread to 5,000 acres with evacuation orders issued for several nearby areas. Credit: Anthony Cabassa via Storyful
