A 25-year-old Salem man was arrested May 11 after police allege he shot someone and later broke into a nearby home.
Officers responded at about 1 p.m. to a report of a gunshot wound in the 4100 block of Campbell Drive Southeast. They found a 37-year-old male victim with a non-life-threatening injury, but the suspect fled the scene before officers arrived, police said.
At about 3:45 p.m., a homeowner in the 4000 block of Cranston Street Southeast reported returning home and finding a burglar asleep in the residence, police said. Police arrested the man and later connected him to the earlier shooting.
Police said the man knew the gunshot victim and that the handgun used in the shooting was stolen from the home he had burglarized. Police allege the man also stole several thousand dollars in cash.
He was set to be arraigned May 12 at 2:30 p.m. on charges of second-degree attempted murder with a firearm, second-degree assault with a firearm, first-degree burglary, unlawful use of a weapon and four counts of first-degree theft.
The man had warrants out for his arrest in at least two other cases.
