High tide splashed and pulled debris from homes and businesses devastated by wildfires into the waters off the coast of Malibu, California, on Thursday, February 27.
Frank Nielsen captured this drone video near the Pacific Coast Highway. The video shows water lapping close to the remnants of destroyed structures before cutting to a large patch of floating debris.
Starting on January 7, the Palisades Fire tore through the area, killing 12 people and destroying over 6,800 structures.
On Wednesday, the US Environmental Protection Agency said they completed Phase 1of wildfire cleanup in relation to the “catastrophic Los Angeles County wildfires,” which included identifying and clearing hazardous materials from residential and commercial properties, and paving the way for debris removal for other stages of the recovery effort.
