A replacement has been named on a part-completed leisure centre where ISG had been main contractor.
North East Derbyshire Council announced this week that its development partner Alliance Leisure had appointed Nottingham-headquartered Universal Civils & Build to finish the Clay Cross Active scheme in Chesterfield.
The job, estimated to be worth £24m by Glenigan, involved demolition of part of the existing Sharley Park Leisure Centre, building a new centre and 3G football pitch, and landscaping, access and car park works.
ISG was appointed main contractor in 2023. Demolition of the old leisure centre is complete and the structure of the new building is in place, with completion of external brickwork and facades still due to be carried out.
ISG went under in September after a long-running effort to sell the business broke down, leaving dozens of projects unfinished across the country.
A statement from the council said: “You will start to see contractors returning to site in the coming weeks.
“Universal have already made the site secure and safe, and are currently rescheduling the works to ensure they can be completed as quickly as possible.”
Universal Civils & Build is a leisure specialist. The activities of sister divisions include piling, plant and labour supply.
This week it emerged that ISG’s trade creditors were owed more than £195m when it filed for administration, with former employees out of pocket to the tune of £72.3m and HMRC owed at least £54.4m by the seven subsidiaries for which statements of affairs have so far been published.
