Christen Harper Goff has found a community with her fellow Detroit Lions WAGs — and they certainly know how to have a good time.
Christen, who married Lions quarterback Jared Goff in June, gushed about the bond she’s formed with the other wives and girlfriends inside the organization since arriving in the Motor City in 2021 in an exclusive interview with Us Weekly.
“Everyone’s in a unique position because we’re all coming from different places,” Christen, 31, told Us while promoting her partnership with The Cocktail Collection. “There’s some girls who are from here, but generally it’s girls moving to a new city where they don’t know anybody. A lot of us are lucky because there was this fresh start around the time Jared came to the team, so a lot of us were getting to know the city at the same time.”
Christen reflected on the “really hard” time at the start of her husband’s tenure with the Lions, when Detroit finished 3-13-1 in his first season as the team’s quarterback.
“It was a little tough not winning as much as we are now,” she said.
Last season, the Lions won the NFC North for the team’s first division title since 1993 and advanced all the way to the NFC Championship Game.
The newly-installed winning culture brought a lot more fun off the field, too.
“I think going through all the ups and downs together have really brought us closer together,” Christen explained of her bond with the other wives and girlfriends. “We leaned on each other during the tough times and we celebrate the fun times together.”
And when Christen says celebrate, she really means it.
“For special games, the girls and I will take a party bus,” she said. “Maybe hit up a local bar before the game.”
When the Lions are on the road, the group will sometimes gather for a watch party, like the one Christen hosted at her house for the Lions win over the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday, October 13.
As for her gameday outfits, Christen said she likes to keep things “a little more basic” than some of the other wives in league, but she still likes to get creative.
“My favorite thing is looking for vintage pieces,” she divulged. “I love to find vintage Lions stuff. That’s been really fun for me over the years. I’ll wear them and rewear them or maybe style them differently. Add a spin to it, cut it up, do something fun.”
She added, “I can’t say I’m as creative as the other girls. I’m not even trying to keep up because they’re so amazing.”
For Lions gamedays this season, Christen has partnered with The Cocktail Collection and their new Crown Royal Black Cherry Whisky Sour — which she even served at her watch party for the Cowboys game.
“I feel like, when you think about football, you think about having a nice drink with it,” she said. “The Cocktail Collection makes it so easy.”
Of the aforementioned watch party, Christen told Us it was “a last minute thing.”
“It was actually the easiest thing to just bring out these bottles,” she recalled. “Everybody could get exactly what they wanted. It was my first time really testing it and all the girls loved it.”
