4 dead after airplane crash near Yukon airport

Four people died when their single-engine airplane crashed near Yukon’s Sundance Airport Tuesday afternoon, officials report.

Oklahoma City firefighters were called to the vicinity of the airport at 1:27 p.m. As they arrived, they could see a plume of smoke east of the runway.

“It looked like the plane had crashed into the trees, so it was kind of in a wooded area. There was a lot of fire that was active. Firefighters quickly extinguished the flames. Unfortunately, there were four souls on board and nobody survived,” said Scott Douglas, OKCFD public information officer.

Details about the flight or victims weren’t immediately available Tuesday afternoon.

Douglas said no structures were involved in the fire, but firefighters would remain at the scene Tuesday afternoon to monitor hot spots.

Officials from the Federal Aviation Administration were on scene, along with the Oklahoma City Police Department. The National Transportation Safety Board is expected to investigate the crash.
