17 injured in fiery crash of multiple motorcycles on I-35W in north Fort Worth


Seventeen people were injured when multiple motorcycles crashed and caused a fire in the southbound express lanes of Interstate 35W near Heritage Trace Parkway in far north Fort Worth on Friday night, authorities said.

Ten ambulances and eight fire trucks responded to the scene and transported four patients in critical condition and six in serious condition to hospitals, a Fort Worth Fire Department spokesperson said.

Seven additional people involved in the collision had minor injuries.

About 15 motorcycles were reported to be involved in the crash. According to Fort Worth police, the initial investigation found that the chain-reaction accident was caused when the lead vehicle had a tire blow out.

The southbound I-35W toll road was shut down at the accident site, which is across from Chuck E. Cheese in the Presidio shopping center, authorities said about 10 p.m. Friday, April 18.

The crash was first reported about 8:40 p.m., according to a 911 call log.

Traffic detectives will continue to investigate what led to the crash, police said.
