One person is dead and another was injured after a reported shooting that led to a SWAT team response early Sunday at a Lubbock County home.
The Lubbock County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of shots fired about 3:40 a.m. Sunday at a home in the 5600 block of East County Road 6300, according to a statement from LSO.
Responding deputies found a male victim who appeared to be deceased inside the residence.
Deputies also located another victim, 37-year-old George Moreno, with gunshot wounds to the torso and lower body. He was evacuated from the scene and taken by EMS to University Medical Center for treatment.
Deputies learned the suspect, 48-year-old Paxton Kubica, was still inside the residence in a bedroom with a woman, 36-year-old Caitlynn Bryant.
Deputies contacted the SWAT team and established contact with Kubica, according to the news release.
Bryant came out of the bedroom at approximately 4:40 a.m. as deputies continued to speak with Kubica. Kubica was taken into custody by deputies at approximately 5:16 a.m. without further incident.
LSO hadn’t released the name of the person who died, pending notification of next of kin.
Other factors leading to the shooting were not immediately clear as Lubbock’s Metropolitan Special Crimes Unit continues investigating.
